Federica Mogherini has resigned as rector of the College of Europe. The move follows her detention by Belgian police earlier this week in connection with a corruption probe.
Mogherini is the former High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs. She served as the EU's top diplomat from 2014 to 2019.
She stepped down from her post at the elite postgraduate college just two days after police questioned her. Belgian authorities are investigating allegations of fraud involving the misuse of EU funds.
The College of Europe, with campuses in Belgium and Poland, confirmed her resignation. The institution stated it will not comment further on the ongoing judicial investigation.
