The architecture firm managing renovations at a fire-ravaged Hong Kong housing estate is shutting down. This move highlights major gaps in legal protections for apartment owners, experts warn.
Will Power Architects was the consultant for Wang Fuk Court. The estate was destroyed in May's blaze, Hong Kong’s deadliest fire in over 70 years. The firm was overseeing a HK$336 million (US$43.18 million) renovation project.
The Hong Kong Association of Property Management Companies confirmed the closure. The association said several of its member companies received notices about the firm's shutdown.
Legal experts say the case reveals the limited corporate liability safeguards for flat owners. If a company dissolves after a major incident, pursuing compensation or legal action becomes far more difficult for residents.
