Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has selected his senior military aide, Roman Gofman, to lead the Mossad intelligence agency. Gofman will succeed the current director, David Barnea.
Barnea will complete his standard five-year term in June 2026. The Mossad is Israel's foreign intelligence service, responsible for covert operations abroad.
Gofman currently serves as Netanyahu's military secretary. In this role, he acts as the prime minister's main link to the defense establishment.
The announcement did not provide a reason for the choice. Such appointments are typically approved by Israel's cabinet.
