The report also contains allegations that bodies of those killed were removed from morgues by security forces. This has prevented families from locating victims and obscured the true death toll. The UN group called on Tanzanian authorities to stop the violence immediately. They urged the government to release all arbitrarily detained persons and conduct a transparent investigation. Tanzania’s government has previously dismissed similar allegations as false. Officials have stated that any police actions were necessary to maintain public order.
