Algerian Court Upholds Seven-Year Sentence for French Journalist

An Algerian appeals court has confirmed a seven-year prison sentence for French journalist Christophe Gleizes. The court convicted him of "glorifying terrorism," a charge stemming from his reporting in the Kabylia region. The case relates to Gleizes's work interviewing a football official connected to a banned separatist group. The journalist, who specializes in sports, was originally sentenced in absentia last year. Gleizes's family and the press freedom group Reporters Without Borders argue he was merely performing his professional duties. His legal team now has eight days to file a final appeal to Algeria's Supreme Court.
