Aging Pipe Fails Again, Shuts Down Grand Canyon South Rim Hotels
A critical water pipe at the Grand Canyon has broken for the second time, forcing all hotels on the popular South Rim to close. The breaks have completely cut off the fresh water supply to the accommodations. The failed pipe is approximately 50 years old. It is the main line delivering potable water to the area's hotels. This closure repeats a similar shutdown that occurred during a previous pipe failure. The National Park Service and concessionaires are now working to repair the line and restore water service. No estimated reopening date for the hotels is currently available. Visitors with reservations are advised to contact their hotel or the National Park Service for information.
