UN Warns Gaza "Extremely Massive" with Unexploded Bombs, Blocking Reconstruction

The United Nations reports that Gaza is now contaminated with an "extremely massive" amount of unexploded bombs and other explosive weapons. This dangerous debris is a direct result of the ongoing Israeli military assault. Julius Van Der Walt, the head of the UN Mine Action Service (UNMAS) in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, issued the warning. He stated that the contamination poses a severe and immediate threat to civilians. The widespread presence of these explosives also critically hampers future reconstruction efforts. Clearing the ordnance is a necessary first step before any large-scale rebuilding of homes and infrastructure can safely begin.
