Lawyers for Luigi Mangione are attempting to block key evidence from his upcoming trial. Mangione faces charges related to the assassination of a UnitedHealthcare CEO in Manhattan over a year ago.
The defense is filing a motion to suppress this evidence. Such motions ask a judge to rule certain information inadmissible in court.
However, multiple legal experts familiar with the case call the effort a "long shot." They state that the defense faces a high legal barrier to succeed with this strategy in the New York State Supreme Court.
The court has not yet ruled on the motion. The trial will proceed after this and other pre-trial matters are resolved.
