A U.S. appeals court has ruled in favor of sportswear giant Adidas in a lawsuit filed by its investors. The investors had claimed the company misled them about problems in its lucrative partnership with the rapper and designer Kanye West.
The dispute centered on Yeezy, the highly successful sneaker collaboration. Investors argued that Adidas knew its relationship with West was deteriorating but did not inform shareholders. They said this omission caused financial losses when the partnership ended.
Adidas terminated the Yeezy deal in October 2022 following a series of offensive public statements by West. The split forced the company to halt sales of the profitable product line.
The recent court decision dismisses the investors' class-action lawsuit. The court found that Adidas had no legal duty to publicly predict the end of the partnership, despite internal concerns about West's behavior. This ruling supports the company's position that it acted appropriately in its disclosures.
