A United Nations Security Council delegation arrived in Damascus, Syria, on Monday. The group immediately toured the heavily damaged Jobar district to survey the destruction.
The visit is part of a multi-day trip. The delegation plans to meet with Syrian government officials and local civil society groups.
The Jobar neighborhood suffered extensive damage from bombardment during the earlier years of the conflict. The UN delegates observed the conditions firsthand.
The delegation includes representatives from the 15 member states of the Security Council. Their itinerary includes further meetings in the Syrian capital.
