Algerian Court Increases French Journalist's Sentence to 10 Years

An Algerian appeals court has increased the prison sentence for a French journalist convicted of terrorism-related charges. The court in Tizi Ouzou issued a 10-year sentence to Christophe Gleizes on Wednesday.
Gleizes, a sports journalist, was originally sentenced to seven years in prison in June. Authorities arrested him in May 2024 and he has remained in detention since his initial trial.
The court convicted Gleizes on multiple charges. These included accusations of "glorifying terrorism," according to court proceedings.
The case has drawn international attention and raised concerns about press freedom. Algerian authorities have not released detailed evidence from the trial.
