Poland’s military is guarding its border with Belarus against a surge of illegal migrants. Polish officials call the situation a Russian-backed "hybrid warfare" campaign. They say Moscow and its ally Minsk are deliberately pushing people toward NATO territory to destabilize the alliance and threaten the United States.
The move is part of a broader strategy. By funneling migrants to the border, Russia and Belarus aim to create chaos, overwhelm border guards, and test NATO’s unity. Poland, a key NATO member, has warned that the pressure is increasing.
So far, Poland has deployed thousands of troops to reinforce the frontier. The government says it will not allow the border to be breached. The alert applies directly to NATO and, by extension, to the U.S., which Poland considers its main security partner.
