The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), North America’s largest commuter rail system, will stop all operations on Saturday after union workers launched a strike. The walkout follows stalled contract negotiations between the railroad’s management and its labor unions.
The shutdown is expected to disrupt travel for thousands of daily commuters who rely on the LIRR to travel between Long Island and New York City. No trains will run on Saturday, and officials have not said when service may resume.
