Trump's Name Replaces U.S. Institute of Peace Ahead of Key African Deal Signing

Workers have installed former President Donald Trump’s name on the Washington, D.C., headquarters of the U.S. Institute of Peace. The federal institution is now formally named the "Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace." The change returns the institute to public attention ahead of a major diplomatic event. The venue is scheduled to host the signing of a peace agreement between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The U.S. Institute of Peace is an independent, publicly funded organization. Its mission is to prevent and resolve violent international conflicts. Congress established the institute in 1984. Renaming federal property for a living former president is uncommon. The move was authorized by legislation passed in 2020.
