The state’s Division of Human Rights issued an order against the Locust Valley Central School District. The order prevents the district from implementing its proposed policy, which would have restricted bathroom access based on a person's sex assigned at birth. This is the second such intervention on Long Island in recent weeks. The state took similar action against the Three Village Central School District in May. State law prohibits discrimination based on gender identity. Officials argue these local bans violate that law. The state's actions underscore an ongoing conflict between some local school policies and New York's human rights protections.
