California Doctor Sentenced for Supplying Ketamine to Actor Matthew Perry Before His Death

A California doctor received a prison sentence on Monday for illegally providing ketamine to actor Matthew Perry. The court found the doctor exploited Perry's addiction in the months before the actor's death. Dr. William Mobley pleaded guilty to federal charges of fraud. He admitted to writing fraudulent prescriptions for ketamine, a powerful anesthetic, in another person's name. He then provided the drug directly to Perry. During sentencing, the judge stated Mobley violated his ethical duty as a doctor. The judge said he "monetized" the trust of a vulnerable patient struggling with addiction. Perry, famous for his role on the television series "Friends," died in October 2023. His death was attributed to the acute effects of ketamine. Authorities noted the ketamine in his system was not from his prescribed therapy. Mobley was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison. He must also pay a significant fine and surrender his medical license.
