A Canadian who was on a cruise ship linked to a deadly hantavirus outbreak has tested positive for the virus, health officials said Saturday. The person is one of four Canadians who were quarantining in British Columbia after being on board the MV Hondius, the ship at the center of the outbreak that has already killed three people. Dr. Bonnie Henry, British Columbia’s provincial health officer, said the patient developed mild symptoms, including fever and headache, two days ago. The individual and their partner, who was also on the cruise, were taken to a hospital in Victoria for testing. Hantavirus is a rare but serious disease that can cause severe respiratory problems. Officials say the patient is now in isolation.
