The Hong Kong Investment Corporation (HKIC) earned HK$2.34 billion (US$300.7 million) in its first full year of operation. The government-owned fund released its inaugural financial results on Thursday.
It reported operating income of HK$2.25 billion for the year ending December 31. This return was generated from total assets of HK$64 billion.
The fund has deployed less than one-fifth of its initial HK$62 billion in capital. Officials describe the HKIC as "patient capital," meaning it makes long-term strategic investments rather than seeking quick profits.
The corporation was established to strengthen Hong Kong’s innovation and technology sectors. It also aims to develop the city as an international business and financial center.
