TikTok Announces Major Data Center Investment in Brazil
TikTok will invest over 200 billion reais (US$37.7 billion) to build its first Latin American data center in Brazil. The announcement marks a major expansion for the social media platform, owned by China's ByteDance. The company will partner with data center developer Omnia and renewable energy provider Casa dos Ventos. Monica Guise, TikTok Brazil's head of public policy, confirmed the plan on Wednesday. The facility will be located in the northeastern state of Ceará, near the industrial port of Pecém. Officials state the project will rely entirely on renewable energy sources. This significant investment aims to improve data security and service speed for Brazilian users. It also represents a large commitment to the country's digital infrastructure.
