Tensions escalated near the Strait of Hormuz this week. Iranian forces seized a ship anchored off the coast of the United Arab Emirates. The vessel was taken toward Iran. In a separate incident, another ship was attacked and sank near the coast of Oman. The events mark a sharp increase in military activity along the world’s most important oil shipping route. No official claims of responsibility have been made for the attack that sank the second vessel. The Strait of Hormuz carries about 20% of the world’s oil supply.
