The head of US Border Patrol, Michael Banks, resigned Thursday. He announced his decision on Fox News, and the Department of Homeland Security later confirmed it.
The Border Patrol is the agency responsible for securing US borders. Recently, the Trump administration has also used it for immigration operations inside American cities.
Banks’ resignation is the latest leadership change among officials carrying out President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown. The shake-up comes as the Republican administration pushes forward with its enforcement efforts.
