Hong Kong's flagship airline, Cathay Pacific Airways, is tightening its boarding process to improve on-time departures. Starting June 1, the airline will close its boarding gates at Hong Kong International Airport 15 minutes before departure—five minutes earlier than before. Passengers will also begin boarding five minutes earlier.
The carrier announced the change on Thursday, explaining that late arrivals and no-show passengers have been a major cause of delays. By moving up both boarding and gate closure times, Cathay aims to reduce waiting and ensure flights leave on schedule.
