A former police officer in Missouri has pleaded guilty to misconduct after illegally searching women's phones during traffic stops.
Julian Alcala, an ex-officer from the Florissant Police Department, admitted to the charges in court. His illegal actions occurred over several months last year.
Prosecutors stated that Alcala pulled over at least 20 women. During these stops, he improperly seized their mobile phones to search for private nude photos and videos.
A plea agreement details that Alcala used his official position to access the personal devices without legal justification. This conduct violated the constitutional rights of the drivers he stopped.
The case highlights serious abuse of police authority. Sentencing for the former officer is scheduled for a later date.
