Millions of documents chronicling generations of Palestinian trauma have been rescued from Gaza and East Jerusalem in a 10-month secret operation by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (Unrwa).
The journey from East Jerusalem to Amman would normally take a short drive down to the Dead Sea, across a border checkpoint, and quickly on to the Jordanian capital. But in early summer 2024, that route became almost impossible for Unrwa humanitarian workers trying to safeguard huge quantities of archival material vital to decades of recent Palestinian history.
