A U.S. immigration judge has filed a lawsuit against the Department of Justice, alleging illegal discrimination. The suit claims the department violated her rights under federal civil rights law and the U.S. Constitution.
The judge, based in Florida, accuses the Justice Department of violating Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. This law prohibits workplace discrimination based on sex, race, color, national origin, and religion.
The lawsuit also states the department violated her First Amendment rights. The First Amendment protects freedom of speech and expression.
In a public response, Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi defended herself against the allegations. "Last time I checked, I'm a woman too," Bondi stated, addressing the claims of gender-based discrimination.
The Justice Department has not yet issued a formal comment on the pending litigation. The case will proceed through the federal court system.
