Turkish Opposition Parties Discuss Possible By-Election: "Constitution Article 78 is Clear"

ANKARA – The main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) has launched a series of meetings with other opposition groups in parliament, starting with the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party). CHP Deputy Group Chair Gökhan Günaydın confirmed the visit on Tuesday. He stated his party plans to meet all opposition groups that have parliamentary seats. “Our first visit was to the DEM Party,” Günaydın said. The meetings are focused on Turkey’s election law. Specifically, they are discussing Article 78 of the constitution, which outlines conditions for holding a by-election. Günaydın did not provide further details on the timing or outcome of the talks.
