Poll Reveals Quad Nations' Concerns Over Trump's Second Term
A new survey shows most citizens in three key U.S. allies in Asia view a second Donald Trump presidency as harmful to their nations. The poll also found that more Australians now see the U.S. as a damaging force in the region than a helpful one. The United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney conducted the research. It surveyed 1,000 people in each of the four "Quad" nations: Australia, Japan, India, and the United States. The findings indicate that a majority of Australians, Japanese, and Indians believe Trump's second term has been bad for their countries. The region has been shaken by disruptive U.S. political developments, according to the report released on Thursday. Despite these concerns, the poll found continuing support for the Quad alliance itself. The strategic group aims to promote security and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
