More than 40 journalists and human rights defenders are scheduled to appear in Turkish courts this week, according to the Media and Law Studies Association (MLSA).
The cases will be heard on Wednesday and throughout the rest of the week. Among those facing trial are prominent figures including Zeynep Durgut, Derya Ren, Mahmut Altıntaş, Ceren Sözeri, Mehmet Kılıç, Rüstem Batum, Ferhat Tunç, Züleyha Müldür, Ezgi Gürbüz, Simay Ada Kart, Furkan Karabay, Barış Terkoğlu, and Reyhan Hacıoğlu.
MLSA, which tracks press freedom and expression cases, released the schedule highlighting the large number of defendants in a single week. The trials come amid ongoing concerns over legal pressure on independent media in the country.
