The Red Cross has facilitated the handover of the remains of an Israeli hostage from Hamas to the Israeli military. This transfer occurred inside the Gaza Strip on Tuesday.
It fulfills a specific provision of the ongoing temporary ceasefire agreement. The deal requires Hamas to release hostages in exchange for Israel freeing Palestinian prisoners.
The process involved International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) teams. They collected the body from Hamas officials and transported it to a designated transfer point. Israeli forces then received the remains.
Israeli authorities have identified the deceased as 19-year-old Corporal Noa Marciano. Hamas had previously reported her death in captivity. The current ceasefire, now in its fifth day, has enabled the release of dozens of hostages and hundreds of Palestinian detainees.
Negotiations continue between the warring parties, mediated by Qatar and Egypt. The central discussion point is a potential extension of the truce to allow for further exchanges.
