Police in Sicily have seized horses and questioned several people after a video showed an illegal race involving horse-drawn carts, with spectators firing pistols and brandishing Kalashnikov rifles.
The clip, reportedly filmed on Friday in the town of Palagonia near Catania, shows two jockeys racing horse-drawn carts at high speed along country roads. Dozens of people follow on scooters, firing shots into the air.
Animal rights activist Enrico Rizzi posted the footage on social media, prompting a police investigation that led to the seizure of the animals.
Authorities have not yet announced any formal charges. The investigation is ongoing.
