A lone gunman hijacked a small humanitarian aircraft in South Sudan on Tuesday, according to police. The assailant forced the pilot to fly for several hours before the plane landed safely.
The aircraft touched down in the northern town of Wau. Authorities confirmed that no one was injured during the incident.
The hijacker reportedly demanded to be flown to neighboring Chad. Police did not specify why the flight ultimately landed in Wau instead.
South Sudanese officials are now investigating the hijacking. They have not yet released details about the gunman's identity or motive.
