U.S. Citizen and Former Marine Receives Extended Prison Sentence in Russia

A Russian court has added two more years to the prison term of American citizen Robert Gilman. State media reported the ruling on Wednesday.
Gilman, a former U.S. Marine, is already serving a sentence after his 2022 conviction. A court found him guilty of assaulting a police officer while drunk.
The latest sentence extends his total time in a Russian penal colony. The court did not immediately disclose the specific reason for the new, additional charge.
The case continues amid heightened tensions between Washington and Moscow. Several other American citizens are also currently detained in Russia on various charges.
