Syria has recovered and returned more than 1,400 archaeological pieces to the Idleb Museum. The announcement was made by Culture Minister Mohammed Yassin al-Saleh on Wednesday.
The recovered items include 1,234 ancient clay tablets and 198 other artifacts. Officials removed them from the museum years ago for safekeeping during the country's prolonged conflict.
Minister al-Saleh stated that many pieces originate from early civilizations in Syria. He credited local residents for their role in helping protect the nation's cultural heritage.
The return marks a significant step in restoring the museum's collection. Idleb, in northwestern Syria, has seen extensive damage from fighting.
