Father John Berinyuy Tatah, a Catholic priest abducted in southwestern Cameroon last month, is now free. Unidentified separatist fighters seized him and his vicar from the parish in Babessi on November 15.
Local sources confirmed his release but did not provide details on the circumstances. The current condition of Father Tatah and the status of his vicar remain unclear.
The abduction occurred in Cameroon's Anglophone regions, where a prolonged conflict continues. Since 2017, separatist groups have fought to create an independent state called Ambazonia. The ongoing violence has led to thousands of deaths and the displacement of over half a million people.
International observers have repeatedly called for dialogue to resolve the crisis. This incident highlights the continued risks to civilians and religious figures in the conflict zone.
