Ghanaian police officers will not take annual leave over Christmas, the government has announced. The move aims to strengthen security for citizens and visitors during the busy festive period.
Deputy Interior Minister Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi confirmed the decision. He stated that the police have suspended all new leave applications.
Officers already on leave have also been recalled to duty. This recall will increase the number of police available for operations nationwide.
The government says these measures are necessary to ensure public safety. The Ghana Police Service will deploy its full operational strength throughout the holiday season.
