Uganda Approves Record $2.1 Billion Supplementary Budget

Uganda's parliament has approved a massive supplementary budget of 8.1 trillion shillings, equivalent to approximately $2.1 billion. This allocation ranks among the largest emergency spending packages since the country updated its key financial law in 2015. The funds were passed despite strong objections from opposition lawmakers. They criticized the timing and size of the request, arguing it strains national resources. A supplementary budget is a formal addition to a government's annual financial plan. Governments use them to address urgent, unforeseen needs. The approval follows an amendment to Uganda's Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) in 2015. This law sets the rules for how the government manages public funds.
