The Trump administration launched a new national plan, titled "Fentanyl Free America," on Wednesday. The strategy aims to combat the deadly flow of fentanyl and other synthetic opioids into the United States.
The announcement coincided with a report from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) on recent interdiction efforts. DEA Administrator Uttam Dhillon stated that U.S. and partner-nation strikes on suspected drug-smuggling boats in the Caribbean are having a significant impact.
These maritime operations target a known trafficking route for illicit drugs. Officials claim the strikes are effectively disrupting the supply chain before it reaches U.S. shores.
The newly revealed plan organizes existing federal efforts to stop fentanyl production, distribution, and consumption. It focuses on law enforcement, border security, and public health awareness about the dangers of the potent synthetic drug.
