Residents Return to Sole Unscathed Tower After Deadly Hong Kong Fire
Residents of the only building spared in a fatal Hong Kong fire returned home briefly on Wednesday to collect essential belongings. The fire ravaged the Wang Fuk Court public housing estate in the Tai Po district earlier this week. Carrying luggage and visibly emotional, residents re-entered Wang Chi House to retrieve valuables, warm clothing, documents, appliances, and pets. Government personnel accompanied them as they arrived individually or via shuttle buses. Although their flats sustained little damage, some residents described feeling heartbroken upon returning. The evacuation order for the building remains in effect, with only two members from each household permitted to enter temporarily.
