Gabon's Minister of Tourism, Pascal Ogowé Siffon, is in custody on suspicion of embezzling public funds. Authorities accuse him of stealing approximately $18 million.
Investigators detained Siffon as he attempted to leave the capital, Libreville. They consider him a serious flight risk, meaning they believe he was likely trying to flee the country to avoid prosecution.
The arrest is part of a broader anti-corruption campaign in Gabon. The current military-led government, which took power in 2023, has pledged to investigate alleged financial crimes under previous administrations.
