Former European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini faces fraud and corruption charges. Belgian authorities formally notified her of the accusations following an investigation into EU-funded training contracts.
The case involves contracts for training future diplomats. Investigators detained and questioned Mogherini after conducting raids at the EU's diplomatic service and the College of Europe, a postgraduate institution.
Two senior officials were also detained in the operation. All three individuals have now received formal notification of the charges as the judicial inquiry proceeds.
The investigation continues, and the allegations have sparked significant discussion within political circles in Brussels.
