Japanese automaker Honda has reported its first operating loss in years. The company is now pausing and reevaluating its electric vehicle (EV) plans.
The loss comes as Honda struggles with high costs for EV development and weaker sales. An operating loss means the company spent more money on its daily business than it earned, before paying taxes or interest.
Honda stated it will slow down its EV launch schedule. The company wants to focus on making cheaper hybrids and improving battery technology. This shift follows similar moves by other global carmakers who have seen lower-than-expected demand for all-electric cars.
The automaker did not give a specific date for when it expects to return to profit.
