Ghana’s Interior Minister has announced a new amnesty program for unregistered firearms. The initiative urges citizens to surrender illegal weapons without facing arrest.
Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak renewed the call for voluntary disarmament. He stated individuals can hand over illicit arms without fear of prosecution.
The amnesty aims to reduce the number of illegal weapons in circulation. Authorities hope it will improve national security.
Officials did not specify the duration of the amnesty period. The government often uses such programs, known as gun amnesties, to collect unlawfully held firearms.
