South African drivers will pay more for petrol and diesel in December, the government confirmed. The increase comes during the country's busy festive travel season.
The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy stated the price adjustment took effect on Wednesday, December 6. It applies to all grades of petrol.
The department cited higher international petroleum costs and a weaker local currency as primary reasons for the hike. These two factors are the main drivers of South Africa's monthly fuel price changes.
This increase places additional financial pressure on consumers and businesses. Transport costs for goods and holiday travel are expected to rise as a result.
