Hong Kong Travel Agency Investigated for Sudden Closure Announcement

Hong Kong's travel industry watchdog is investigating an agency that announced its closure just one day before ceasing operations. The Travel Industry Authority (TIA) stated this abrupt notice may have broken the law.
The agency, M&F Lucky Holiday, made the announcement on Monday. It then closed on Tuesday, affecting approximately 1,500 customers.
The TIA said the short notice "constitutes a breach of the ordinance," referring to the Travel Industry Ordinance. The case involves an estimated HK$1.7 million (US$218,400) in customer funds.
The authority vowed on Wednesday to investigate the incident. It will examine whether the agency failed to follow legal procedures for winding down its business.
