New Zealand police are monitoring a suspect who allegedly swallowed a $19,000 jeweled pendant to steal it.
The 32-year-old man is accused of consuming an ornate Fabergé octopus pendant at Partridge Jewellers in Auckland last Friday. The item is valued at NZ$33,000 (approximately US$19,000).
Authorities stated on Wednesday that physical evidence of the alleged theft has not yet been recovered. The man underwent a medical assessment after his arrest.
An officer remains assigned to monitor the situation as police wait for the pendant to pass through his digestive system naturally.
