New Search Launched for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, Decade After Disappearance
A new private-sector search will resume the hunt for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370. The aircraft vanished ten years ago, creating one of aviation's most profound mysteries. The Boeing 777 disappeared on March 8, 2014, during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. It carried 239 passengers and crew. Despite a massive multinational search across the southern Indian Ocean, no confirmed wreckage has been found. The upcoming mission will be led by the American marine robotics company Ocean Infinity. The company has signed a new agreement with the Malaysian government. Its search will focus on an expanded area of the Indian Ocean based on fresh scientific analysis. "This search is arguably the most challenging, and indeed the most pertinent one out there," said Ocean Infinity CEO Oliver Plunkett. The company plans to use a fleet of advanced autonomous underwater vehicles for the operation. If the company locates the main wreckage site, its payment will be contingent on success. This "no-find, no-fee" model was used in a previous attempt by the firm in 2018. The new search is scheduled to begin later this year.
