Republican Matt Van Epps Wins Key Tennessee Congressional Seat, AP Projects
Republican Matt Van Epps will represent Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District, The Associated Press projected Tuesday. He defeated Democrat Aftyn Behn in a closely watched special election. The election filled a seat left vacant by former Republican Representative Mark Green. Green retired from the House earlier this year. Van Epps’s victory maintains Republican control of the district. Political analysts considered the race a test of party strength ahead of November’s general elections. The 7th District covers parts of Middle and West Tennessee, including Clarksville and several rural counties. Van Epps is expected to serve the remainder of the current term, which ends in January 2025.
