Malaysia announced it will resume the deep-sea search for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370. The new operation is scheduled to begin on December 30.
The aircraft disappeared in March 2014 with 239 people on board. Despite one of the largest searches in aviation history, the main wreckage has never been found.
The upcoming mission will focus on a renewed survey of the southern Indian Ocean. Malaysian officials stated they have contracted a specialized ocean exploration company to lead the effort.
The search will use advanced underwater drones, called autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). These robots can map the seafloor in extreme depths previously unreachable.
