Republican candidate Matt Van Epps won a special election for Tennessee's 7th Congressional District on Tuesday. He defeated Democratic challenger Aftyn Behn.
The victory maintains Republican control of a seat considered crucial for the party. The district has consistently supported Republican candidates.
Former President Donald Trump had publicly endorsed Van Epps. Trump won the same district by a significant 22-point margin in the 2020 presidential election.
Van Epps will complete the current term, which ends in January 2025. The result does not change the balance of power in the closely divided U.S. House of Representatives.
