Tom Homan, the White House's top immigration policy adviser, has pledged to enforce federal immigration laws in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He made the statement after the city's mayor publicly criticized recent enforcement operations.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey described such enforcement raids as "not American" and said they "terrorize" certain communities. In response, Homan vowed to continue enforcement efforts "without apology."
Homan, often called the "border czar," coordinates immigration policy. He stated that federal law requires immigration officials to detain and remove individuals who are in the country without legal permission, regardless of local opposition.
The exchange highlights an ongoing conflict between some local governments and federal immigration authorities. Several U.S. cities have adopted policies limiting cooperation with federal immigration enforcement.
